Target Audience

This workshop series is ideal for insurance brokers, claims handlers and underwritersโ€”whether you're just starting out or have years of experience - who are looking to deepen their technical knowledge and strengthen their approach to Business Interruption (BI) insurance.

Overview

Business Interruption can be one of the most complex and challenging areas of insurance to navigate - but it also presents a valuable opportunity for brokers and underwriters to deliver exceptional outcomes when it matters most.

This engaging three-part workshop series is designed to take you on a practical journey through the full lifecycle of a Business Interruption claimโ€”from risk identification through to resolution and recovery. Whether you're new to the industry or looking to refine your expertise ahead of one of the most important times of the year, this series will give you the tools, insights, and confidence to manage BI claims with greater clarity and impact.

We begin in Session 1 with Peter Gibb, Underwriting Principal โ€“ Property at Epsilon Insurance, where you'll explore how to assess property risk profiles, improve submission slips, and interpret key sections of a property insurance policy. This session lays the groundwork for understanding how risk is framed before a loss occurs. You will learn about key areas within these policy types that are often not fully understood unless experienced through working on a claim.

In Session 2, we move into the heart of the claims process with Rob Martin, Managing Director at MartinMinettโ€”looking at how Business Interruption is calculated, how benefits are applied, and how to approach loss adjusting in real time. You'll get hands-on with a collaborative group exercise designed to bring these technical concepts to life.

Session 3 focuses on what happens after the dust settles: helping your client recover. Darren Reilly, Senior Insurance Broker at Rivers Insurance, will explore how to use progress payments effectively, support clients in returning to pre-loss trading, and advocate with impact throughout the claims journey.

Each session is led by seasoned industry professionals and offers a mix of technical insights, real-world case studies, and interactive discussion. The series wraps up with an informal networking session over light refreshmentsโ€”giving you the chance to connect with your peers and presenters to fully round out the learnings from the day.
